Lipids

Lipids are classfied as all materials that can be extracted from living tissue using organic solvents. These are therefore quit different from the study of sugars and amino acids since they can vary in structure in many ways. There a three general classes which then group them by their strucutre; storage, structural, and signal/pigment materials. THe lat one again is more of a catch all. But the first two are very much structural in the way they can be studied.

Once you grasp that lipids are just all compounds soluable in cyclohexane, you then begin your study of the structural differences.

Lectures

Lectures are Monday ... This is a two week chapter. Boht lectures are on Monday. THe first emphasises text material from chapter 24. The second lecture will again be used to bring together the chemistry of functional groups into the understanding of organic and biochemistry parts of lipids.
